Top 10 Holiday Gift Ideas For The Furniture Refinisher In Your Life

Whether you’re a Furniture Refinisher or have a loved one who is, we have you covered for the holidays. Here is a list of 10 items that would be the perfect gift for the beginner or veteran furniture refinisher in your life.

1. Good Quality Brushes

Having a good quality brush is must when painting furniture. Using a cheap brush will show in your work and can be uncomfortable using for long periods of time. Using a good quality like a Staalmeester or Zibra gives you amazing control, soft bristles leaving a smooth finish and holds a lot of paint so you don’t have to keep dipping into the paint can. You can never have too may brushes! Click here to learn how to choose the best brush for your project. Prices range from $17.99 to $65.99.

2. Brush Cleaner

Keeping your tools of the trade in tip top shape is very important when investing in good quality paint brushes. Brush soap will keep your paint brushes clean, conditioned and will last a long time. My favourite brush soap Scrubby Soap and smells amazing! Click here to learn how to clean your brushes.

3. Metallic Paint

Who doesn’t love a little bling! Several paint companies like FAT paint and Dixie Belle Paint Company have a gorgeous selection of metallic paint colours. Colours range from a shimmering pearl, gold, rose gold, blue, green, silver, bronze and more. Price range $19-$34

4. Top Coat

Using a Top Coat (Clear Coat) on your project will give a more durable finish on pieces like coffee and dining room table and other high traffic pieces. Two of my favourite Clear Coats are FAT paint Clear Coat and Dixie Belle Paint Company. Price range $30.

5. Furniture Transfers

Furniture transfers are an easy way to elevate the look of your furniture. They are images that  can be applied after painting by rubbing the adhesive side onto your furniture. They come in several styles, colours and will take your refinishing game to the next level.

6. Apron

Painting furniture can get messy. A good quality apron will keep the paint off your clothes and keep you organized! This apron from Zibra is one of my favourites, the material is sturdy and has pockets to keep your brushes handy!

7. The Problem Solvers

Problem solver products are not always needed but they can save you time and frustration when working with difficult pieces.  Many furniture paint brands carry products to help deal with issues like bleed through or adhesion primers to paint over laminate or slick surfaces. My favourite products to use are Dixie Belle Boss to cover bleed through and Slick Stick to help adhesion to tricky surfaces. These products will make it a breeze to paint anything!

8. Paint Swatch

A paint swatch is a great tool for the beginner or the veteran refinisher. It helps to see the true colour of paint and can help when deciding on a colour palette.

9. Paint!

You can never go wrong picking up a pint or two or three of paint! There are so many great brands on the market. Pick up a  few of your special someone’s favourite colours

10. Workshops & DIY Coaching

There is so much to learn with furniture refinishing, the possibilities are endless. Taking a workshop from an expert or having a few hours of DIY coaching is a great way to build your confidence and grow your skill. Whether it's a fun in-person class or a one-on-one intensive DIY coaching session to help learn a new technique or to strategize a plan for your project, it is a great gift to grow your confidence.  Click here to learn more about our DIY coaching or click here to read our beginners guide on how to paint furniture.
