Thrifty Lamp DIY

Lighting is an important part of interior design, it can change the mood of a room and create a cozy, warm environment. I am always on the lookout for interesting lighting when thrifting. I found this amazing table lamp at my local Salvation Army.

The colour and pattern is outdated but the shape and the scale of it is perfect! An easy and inexpensive way to update a tired lamp is to paint it. Here is how you can try out this easy DIY and refresh a thrifted lamp.

Materials

  • Tsp

  • Spray primer or Slick Stick

  • Sand texture medium

  • Dixie Belle Paint in Drop Cloth or acrylic paint; Moonshine Metallic in Gold Digger

  • paint brush

  • Shop rags

Step One

First give the lamp a good clean with Tsp to remove any oil or residue.

Step Two

Then apply a coat of Sick Stick or spray primer over the base of the lamp. Let it dry overnight.

Step Three

Add a tablespoon or two of Sand texture into a container. Then add some paint and mix well. Paint the whole lamp base and let it dry.

Paint the lamp base in gold and let it dry.

A fresh coat of paint in a warm, neutral colour transforms this outdated, thrifted lamp into a statement piece. Make sure to hit your local thrift store for unique lighting. Happy thrifting!
