3 Tips On How To Master Using Dixie Belle Tinted Waxes.
Dixie Belle Best Dang Wax has a beautiful consistency and is perfect product to give your painted piece a slight sheen with a soft and silky feel. It comes in clear and four tinted shades- white, black, brown, grunge gray and is water based.
Using the tinted shades of waxes, can be a gorgeous addition to any piece. They can be used to add depth, highlight details or to create a different look and style of a piece. Waxes can be fun to play with however some may find using the darker shades of wax intimidating to work with. In this blog I will give you 3 tips on how you can master using tinted waxes on your next project.
Use a Natural Bristle Brush
Using a good quality natural bristle brush is so important when applying waxes. It makes application a breeze, using less wax compared to applying it with a cloth.
One of my favourite brushes to use when applying waxes is La Petite brush. The smaller size makes it easier to get into tight spaces. The pointed tip helps to target areas and get into the intricate details of your piece. Best Dang brush is a must for applying wax on larger pieces.
2.Controlling The Wax
White, Brown, Black and Grunge Grey can be applied right over most colours. It can make a dramatic impact on dark or mid tone colours like reds, blues, greys and black. However, applying dark wax onto light colours can really change the whole look.
A pro tip to give you great control when applying dark tinted wax is to apply Best Dang Clear wax first and work in small sections. Using your Clear wax first will help create a barrier, avoiding your darker wax to penetrate completely into your porous painted surface. This will give you more control and working in smaller sections will help the wax stay maneuverable. Clear wax can also be used to remove black or brown wax if you find that you have applied too much.
3. Wipe Away The Excess
Before moving on to your next section make sure to wipe back any excess wax. This will avoid your piece from feeling tacky after. I always do a touch test to ensure that the finish is smooth and not tacky before moving on to my next section.
These 3 tips will help you master using any colour of Best Dang Wax to create beautiful effects. Have fun and try out black wax on blues, greens or grey for a smoky, elegant effect. To create a beautiful rustic patina try out brown wax or for a weathered grey look try out grunge grey.
